Facebook offers Warner Bros. films as VOD

In the United States, Warner Bros. is experimenting with a new distribution channel. Facebook is offering Hollywood films for rent.

For the president

of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, making the studio’s films available via Facebook is an obvious choice, pointing out that the social network has become a "daily destination for hundreds of millions of users".

Nevertheless, this distribution is currently experimental and only available in the United States. It is available for testing through "Batman: The Dark Knight’s" Page Facebook or via a "Watch The Dark Night from Warner Bros." application.

Once the application is installed, the film will be available for rent for 48 hours for 30 Facebook credits, or $3. The user can watch the film in full screen mode and has various control options available to them. They will continue to have full access to Facebook functions including the possibility of publishing comments, interacting with friend and updating their status.

According to Warner Bros., other new releases will be added in the coming months, both for rent and purchase. Will the social network experience help video on demand? It should do, as watching a film is something you can do both by yourself and as a group.
